For years, I wanted to write a book.
I told myself I didn’t have time. That I needed to build my career first. That no one would care what I had to say.
But underneath all those excuses was one thing: fear.
Then I wrote Punching Above Your Weight in a week.
Was the fear gone? No. I just finally realized that fear isn’t a stop sign. It’s an arrow pointing to what matters most.
My dad taught me that.
He built his own business from nothing. He faced fear every day – fear of failure, of letting his family down, of not making payroll. But he didn’t let it stop him. He let it guide him.
As Seneca wrote:
“We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”
I see the same thing happening with AI.
People fear it will take their jobs. Or that they won’t be able to keep up. Or that using it will reveal gaps in what they know.
But fear isn’t telling you to stop. It’s telling you to move. To learn. To adapt.
Because the thing you fear losing is the thing you value most.
My dad valued providing for his family. So he built.
I valued having a voice. So I wrote.
Fear can paralyze you. Or it can guide you.
Your choice.
